Elementary school news

As we make our way into September, Aurora Elementary School has several new teachers we are getting to know. We'd like to take an opportunity to introduce some of them to you, as well.

A new 1st grade teacher this year is Mrs. Helgoth. Mrs. Helgoth grew up in Fullerton and received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska-Kearney. As her children started to grow up she decided to go back to school and receive her teaching degree from Doane University. She has been teaching for three years, and before coming to Aurora, Mrs. Helgoth taught 4th grade and Sutton. Mrs. Helgoth’s husband Kirk works for Nebraska Public Power, and they have three children, Hadley, Perry, and KJ. Other than teaching, Mrs. Helgoth enjoys going to her kids' activities, going for walks, and going to the lake.

Ms. Amen is the new Elementary School Counselor. She grew up in Hansen, Nebraska and received her undergraduate degree from Doane University. Since her childhood best friend was deaf, she had always wanted to be a special education teacher. She went to school and got her degree in Special Education, but then went back after her first year of teaching to get her Master's in School Counseling. Ms. Amen came from Grand Island before coming to Aurora and has been teaching for 27 years with 19 of them as a counselor. Outside of school, Ms. Amen has two children and three cats. She enjoys spending time with her children, scrapbooking, reading, bicycling, dabbling with photography, and teaching graduate courses to future school counselors.
