Mark Standage, principal of Aurora Elementary School, has announced that after the 2025-2026 school year, he will be retiring after 22 years in the district. Mr. Standage has been a huge asset at Aurora, taking pride in helping kids and loving his job.

During his 22 years, he has made many very good memories. He said he has loved the school events that were held, such as the school carnival, watching the students have the best time with their friends while playing an assortment of games and winning prizes.

Mr. Standage also said he has enjoyed all of the different all-school PAW Note Celebrations, like when he and Mrs. Teahon participated in a game called “eat it or wear it.” The students really enjoyed watching them get disgusting items poured on them.

Among the accomplishments Mr. Standage lists as important to him are the four large play structures that have been added to the playground. He found it very rewarding to see the faces of the students light up with pure joy when using it for the first time.

After retirement, Mr. Standage plans on spending time with his family and making many new memories with them. He has two grandsons named Hudson and Carson that he adores very much. Also, he is so excited to welcome his soon-to-arrive granddaughter, who will be born in February. He added that he is also looking forward to getting out and traveling more with his wife, Rhonda. During the fall, he hopes to find a part-time job and find as many opportunities to volunteer as possible.

While all good things must come to an end, Mr. Standage said he hopes to leave behind a big legacy. He has had the opportunity to work with hundreds of kids during his career, and he hopes that he made a difference in their lives, whether it is big or small or through his words or actions.
