The Aurora Huskies softball team is looking to break .500 in the latter half of their season. Led by seniors Emely Gonzelez, Adrianna Brei, and Ashlyn Kottwitz, the group is returning 6 starters this year. Freshman Vivi Fahrnbruch has stepped in big for this year's team, batting leadoff and playing shortstop. Fahrnbruch is batting .523 on the year and has hit four long balls, leading the team in both categories. She also shows off her speed, having 10 stolen bases so far.
“Work To Win” is this team's motto, selected by the seniors. “We knew this was going to be a big year of adjustment,” says senior leader Adrianna Brei. “We need to put our all into every game and practice if we want to win those tight games.” The group says they picked it while together in Hobby Lobby to make hair glitter for the team.
The Huskies had a thriller game against local rival York, outlasting them 3-2 in seven innings. Junior Josie Fink was on the mound, throwing nine strikeouts and only allowing four hits. Fink has a total ERA of 4.03 on the year, throwing in 13 of 14 total games. Defense won this game for the Huskies, having zero errors in the field on 21 total chances. On the offensive, London Teahon led the team, going 2-4 with one double and 1 RBI. Emely Gonzelez also went 1-3 with one double.
The team's most recent game was against another local rival Northwest. Losing 11-8 to the number one ranked team in Class B. Novella Stevens, Vivi Fahrnbruch, and London Teahon all had homeruns, and the team combined for a total of 10 hits.
