The Aurora FFA chapter has participated in Connecting Chapters for the past two years. Connecting Chapters is a Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation program that equips high school students with the tools and knowledge to advocate for agriculture and improve agricultural literacy in younger generations.

“My favorite part was how excited the kids were that we were there to teach them and also how excited they were about the activity books. I know that I made a small impact on at least a few kids and that is really cool to see,” senior officer Morgan Bonifas said.

This year, on Nov. 16,  the FFA officers went to the elementary school and taught four different lessons to the fourth-grade students. The lessons included all about cows, their genetics, and byproducts as well as pigs, and their byproducts. They also rear“The Day the Farmers Quit,” and had a lesson about how agriculture is everywhere and in everything.

“The officer team this year is a group of some amazing leaders and people, so I have no doubt that they will remember what we taught them and it will jog their memory as ag becomes more relevant to them as they grow up. I think having so many positive role models in the fourth-grade classroom for an hour and a half was so beneficial to the students and the teachers (providing a little break) but I am so proud of how great the officers were with them and we heard on multiple occasions that we were the highlight of their day, which is so rewarding,” senior officer Emi Huls said.
