The Aurora High School girls cross country team has had a very successful season this year, with many PR’s attained and plaques taken home. The girls overall have won many awards as a team and many as individuals. Many of them felt that even though they may not have performed how they wanted to, they still had fun and enjoyed the season.

“I did not PR at all this season, but I also tried my best and I haven’t been super slow,” senior Ayeanna Smith stated. Ayeanna was not the only person on the team who thought that the team performed well. Freshman Emersyn Dinville also agreed with what Ayeanna said.

“I think the girls' team has performed really good. We’ve placed first in multiple meets and we’re doing really good.”

The girls placed first at the Minden and Central City meets, and received runner-up at GINW and their very own home meet at Poco Creek Golf Course.

They also received runner-up at the Rich Ziegler Invite in Syracuse on Sept. 29. Three girls placed in the top fifteen, which consisted of sophomores Kendal Wineteer, fourth, Lexi Erickson, twelfth, and Ella Eggleston thirteenth. The rest of the varsity members placed in the top 26, which include Makenna Oswald, eighteenth, and Kailey Dick, twenty-sixth. The amount of high placings allowed them to take home runner up of the meet, which was a win for the team.

“I feel like we did great,” Ayeanna said, “I raced well. I didn’t PR, but that’s ok. I passed a lot of my teammates that usually are ahead of me but we’ve got second. There were some hard teams, but we did well as a team. Makenna, Ella, and Kailey all did really well in the varsity race,” she said.

The team has also made great improvements throughout the year. When asked about the season, Emersyn said that she feels they’ve become a better team than they were at the beginning.

“I think that we've improved a lot from working together to move up throughout the whole season.” The girls agreed that they’ve had a good season, but could have still showed more improvement.

Coach Tony Sigler said that while they gained a lot of confidence, they still have more to give.

“I feel that some people, not everybody, but some people gained a lot of confidence. I still think that there’s certain people that should have the confidence, but it’s not there yet.”
